ABOUT HOST PENELOPE COX

Penelope Cox
Penelope Cox, host of "The Penelope Cox Show," has combined 20 years of corporate marketing expertise with her interviewing skills, and created an interview talk show that connects her audience to the premier educators teaching digital marketing today.

Penelope explains, "I'm not the educator, I'm the connector to the educators. I connect my audience to the very best teachers of digital marketing, in it's broadest definition. Marketing that includes internet marketing, mobile, social media, video, search engine, eMarketing - any digital advertising channels my audience wants to know about."

Marketing Expertise

Penelope developed her marketing expertise while working in Los Angeles for an advertising agency, DDB Needham Worldwide, and package-foods giant, ConAgra. She was responsible for $100 million in directing her client's media strategies. She was recognized by "The Wall Street Journal" for her creative strategic thinking in negotiating with NBC for her client Orville Redenbacher the first ever Sunday primetime movie lineup promotional tie-in.

While on the agency side, her research on "The Future of Radio" was published in "Adweek," "Advertising Age" and "The Wall Street Journal."

One of Penelope's career highlights was being selected by her agency to work direct with the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee to negotiate and secure a $5 million public service campaign with ABC, CBS and NBC.

The Love For The Interview

Two years prior to working in advertising, Penelope worked as a DJ and news reporter. She laughs when she talks about her "radio days" in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. "Great and crazy times, but my real love was when I was doing personal one-on-one interviews. World leaders I secured interviews with, included President Gerald Ford, Bob Hope, Business Magnate Baron Hilton, Olympic Gold Medalist Mary Lou Retton, along with visiting dignitaries during the '84 Olympics."

Learn From The Best

One belief Penelope has practiced her entire life is, "To be among the best at what you do, you must learn from the best. And, it's this belief that drove me from Kansas City to Los Angeles where I trained with the men's tennis coach at the University of California and went on to compete against the top 300 women players in the world while qualifying on the Virginia Slims Circuit."

"I was coached how to win at the game of life and developed an 'off-the-court' level of perseverance and tenacity that proved to be what ultimately saved me when my real-estate business was slammed with the economic downturn in March, 2008."

One Small Step From The Street

March, 2008 Penelope was on the leading-edge of the economic downturn. She had taken her marketing skills into real estate. She increased her newly formed business 300% over the course of 12 months. But, as she said, "My real estate client base could no longer get loans. I poured my life's savings into building my business and this coupled with the drop in the DOW and needing to use my own cash reserve, I lost $350K."

Penelope says with a tear in her eye, "If there was ever a time to pull on my life's lessons, it was now." She went on to explain how she sat at her dining room table and drew out her strategic game plan that was going to turn her life around.

"The next 3 years I navigated through murky waters, often just one small step from the street. I know the only thing that saved me was the training I received during my competitive tennis years, the level of perseverance and tenacity that's ingrained into my DNA, lessons learned from my mentors, and my precious family and friends."

Power Of The Internet

Penelope goes on, "I was told by three realtors to take my marketing expertise and go online. I sat in the Kansas City Library for hours trying to understand what internet marketing was all about. It was during this time that I began to learn and embrace the power of the internet."

She explains further, "I found myself clicking around for months, desperately trying to find WHERE to go to learn Internet Marketing and WHO to go to to learn this stuff from. It was then I made a promise to myself that when I get to the final stage of turning my life around, my mission will be to help others understand the power of the internet and to connect them to the premier educators who are teaching digital marketing, internet marketing, today."

Midwest Boomer

Penelope sat on the Board of Directors of the Orange County Advertising Club in Los Angeles, and on Public Service Committees for DARE, MADD, Partnership for a Drug Free America, and the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee.

Penelope was born in Des Moines, Iowa. Spent twenty years of her adult life living in Los Angeles. She graduated with a BA double major in Sociology and Psychology from Baker University. She currently resides with her two rescue cats Askew Avenue and Truman Hunter in Kansas City, Missouri.
